Degreasing
The need for the complete removal of hydrocarbons and forgein matter from the interior of piping systems is addressed in this paper. Hydrocarbon (grease and oil) buildup within piping systems can create serious contamination problems with the end product to be used in the system. Many gasses in particular can be affected when they come in contact with oils. High temperatures within piping systems that contain grease and oils have been known to react very violently often creating hydrogen embrittlement and pockets of hydrogen gas that literally explode within the pipe.
If the components or equipment are to receive additional cleaning i.e. passivation, pickling or descaling, degreasing is an essential first step in the cleaning process.
Varnished piping is also a potential problem in that the varnished interior coating often flakes off during use over a period of time. In the case of hydraulic systems the presence of any type of particulate contamination can cause system failure. The total removal of this impurity may require the necessity of heating the ALKLEAN®.
